About / Artist Statement
“Affixed between documentary and the constructed image, my practice is concerned with emulating vibrant atmosphere within the narrative of authentic people and places. It has evolved to combine my love for analogue photography with fine art and craft processes. Previous final outcomes have taken form as hand-made artists book and bespoke light-boxes. Now working on medium format colour film to make portraits, as I develop an ongoing project titled Unfamiliar that began as an exploration of my family and the nuances of identity that exist within it. Sisters is the most recent iteration of this wider body of work, a 50X40 inch light-box, used to display a self portrait of my sister an I, an image born out of a desire to further deconstruct and expand initial ideas of otherness, and the new found concern of duality within the relationships I have with my family members, my heritage and myself.”
